Environmental Contamination For over 10 years our staff members have provided support services to ecological and human health risk assessors working on SuperFund sites as well as contaminated sites of all sizes. Our primary role on these types of projects relates to characterizing the habitats that are contaminated and identifying the species that comprise the food web on the project site. We also work with risk assessors to identify the species and life stages of fish and wildlife populations that are most at risk to the particular contaminants on the site. As part of our work in this field we have conducted assessments to determine the impact of PCB-contamination on a meta-population of breeding amphibians. We have also worked with fisheries biologists to characterize fish community biomass through analysis and interpretation of multi-pass electro-fishing data. Michael Thompson is currently serving as Past President of the North Atlantic Chapter of SETAC. We have also taught short courses at the SETAC National meeting on addressing reptiles and amphibians in risk assessments. |
